Sin and the People of God: Series Intro
Thursday 28 June 2007 at 7:03 pmAre church people better than other people?
Responses vary.
"They think they are but they are not!" might be one reply. Everyone recognizes that there are hypocrites in the church. Any institution that imagines itself with such lofty goals as the church does would tend to draw those disposed to hypocrisy and may even engender a large amount of it. Churches offer to help people clean up their lives. Churches admonish and advocate in society on a variety of topics and issues. The expectation, at least among many within the church, is that churches intend to occupy a moral or ethical high ground from which to address the public square. Churches also address the broad expanse of human experience. Christianity is not a single issues program. Someone in AA who beats their wife or robs banks is a member in good standing as long as they aren’t drinking. Hypocrisy would also make a list of sins making the church a very appropriate place to be if it fits you.
